LAKE LURE, N.C. — The Town of Lake Lure shared an update Monday night about the ongoing recovery operations in the area, more than five weeks after Hurricane Helene devastated the western North Carolina community.
Images posted by the town on its Facebook page show the scenes on the water, as barges are loaded with debris before leaving the lake. The town said at least 15 small barges and three large barges full of debris were removed from the lake on Monday.
Here are a few of the images shared by Lake Lure.
Hurricane Helene devastated western North Carolina, killing over 100 people across the state. WFMY News 2 reached out to 30 county Emergency Management offices, and we found that less than 10 people in the area are still considered missing because of the storm.
