Posts on social media claim authorities have been removing Helene victims from tiny homes.
Marty and Sheila Pellasma lost their home in a flood, now, the couple are one of 20 people who will receive a tiny home from an anonymous donor.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — In the wake of Hurricane Helene's devastation in Western North Carolina, a wave of misinformation has led to threats against state officials. The Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) issued a statement on Monday addressing the rumors.

Posts on social media claim authorities have been removing Helene victims from tiny homes, according to OSFM. After an investigation, the fire marshal said the claims were "entirely without merit".

The fire marshal said threats have been made against OSFM employees and members of the North Carolina Building Code Council due to the rumor.

The state fire marshal called the threats unacceptable and said his team has worked tirelessly to help western North Carolina heal.
