Greensboro couple overcomes Helene, serious crash to say 'I do'

The couple's wedding venue was flooded out by Helene. Days before the makeup date, the groom almost lost his life.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A picture-perfect ceremony can easily hide the highs and lows it took to capture this holy matrimony.

“When I said we’re supposed to get married in a week and he said probably not. I thought I could not cancel another wedding,” Jessica Beebe said.

Jessica Beebe and Will Landacre  were already hit with one hurdle when flood waters rushed through their wedding venue in Independence, Virginia.

They tried to wait it out, but their faith was no match for Helene.

They called the wedding off the day of.

“I had a hissy fit a little bit and internally I felt like  the universe couldn’t be clearer it wasn’t supposed to happen,” Beebe said.

The venue owner quickly set a new date for December 7th.

But little did the couple know they’d weather another storm.

“I made it maybe 5 minutes before I took a tumble. And instead of skinning my knee, I took a few chunks out of it. and I shattered my spleen and dislocated my shoulder,” Landacre said.

While in Florida for Thanksgiving Will crashed the motorcycle he was driving, hitting a curb.

When he got to the hospital, they learned one of his injuries was life-threatening.

“I shattered my spleen at which point they had to airlift me to Jacksonville to save my life,” Landacre said.

Will says they were able to do a minor procedure to save his spleen.

After two days in the ICU, he flew back to North Carolina determined to walk down the aisle.

Seeing Jessica’s dedication to him during a near-death experience made him even more committed.

“I don’t think you can feel any more strongly for somebody seeing their commitment to you anymore clearly than in those sort of crisis moments,” Landacre said.

The redo wedding couldn’t have been more perfect at their dream venue with those closest to them.

A glimmering ring and fond memories outweigh the bumps along the way.

Will says it’ll be at least another two weeks before he feels like himself again.

Their message to soon-to-be newlyweds is to let the hard times bring you closer together.
