NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Hundreds of substations in the Carolinas were severely damaged by Helene and placed out of service, according to Duke Energy.
While many have been restored, some suffered damage that requires extensive repairs, and in some cases, complete rebuilds. In those instances, Duke Energy said crews are installing mobile substations.
These temporary substations will help restore power to communities quickly while repairs or replacements are made. State agencies have helped navigate logistical challenges, including inspecting a bridge in the Asheville area to support moving a 200,000-pound mobile substation into place.
Duke Energy says its crews will work around the clock and in partnership with local, state, and federal agencies to restore power in the communities needed.
