Rivers in the Piedmont will rise on Friday above flood stage

The Haw River, Dan River, and Yadkin River as all being watched

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Most of the weather from Debby as it leaves the Piedmont behind. However, all the water that fell from the sky has to go somewhere and local rivers are likely to rise through Friday.

When it comes to big rainfall, water hits the ground and feeds into the small creeks and streams first. After that, the creeks and streams flow into the larger area rivers. This all takes time, so even after the rainfall is over it can take a day or two for rivers to reach their peak flood stage.

In this case, most of the area saw between 3 to 5 inches of rain. That's about one to two months worth in just a day. Obviously this is more than we can handle without seeing some problems.

What's the river forecast?
