'From Murphy to Manteo,' snow fell in every corner of North Carolina Thursday

A rare storm that actually produced flakes across the entire state

Snow fell across all of North Carolina Thursday and early Friday. It didn't stick in all areas.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — If you live in North Carolina, you saw some snow Thursday or early Friday. This was a rare storm that produced flakes in every corner of the state from the mountains to the coast. 

Of course, the amount of snow varied greatly across the state. The most snow was seen north and east of Raleigh. Some areas saw 4-5" along the Virginia border near I-95. In the Piedmont, a widespread area of 2-4" was seen from Greensboro to Raleigh and beyond.

Farther south, just flurries were seen in much of the Cape Fear region and Wilmington area beaches. Some accumulation was seen on the ground as far south as Jacksonville.

Typically, winter storms are a bit more localized in North Carolina with snow falling only in some areas with others seeing just rain. This time, the track of the low pressure area was well south of the state which allowed cold air to move in easily.
