GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 9am for a light glaze of ice possible for our area. Temperatures are cold, right around freezing with rain moving in. This could glaze some elevated surfaces at times for the morning hours.
A couple of hours of freezing rain is possible, especially to our north and west and up over the Foothills early Saturday morning, mainly 5AM - 10AM.
By mid to late morning, any freezing rain will turn to just a regular cold rain for our area, lingering through the afternoon.
Our storm system for Saturday is a fast mover, moving in Saturday morning, but already moving out by Saturday evening. We'll be drying out for a couple of days by the time we get to Sunday. With the quick movement of our storm system, rain totals will likely be a bit less than originally thought earlier in the week with around .5-1" likely.
As far as icing goes, this will be a very minor event for us with very little in the way of impacts. A light glaze in the Triad area, while a glaze 1/10" or so is a bit more likely for our Foothills and up over the higher terrain to our north and west.
Some light icing is possible in our area, but a bit more likely in the Foothills. This could make for a few slick spots early Saturday morning on railings, steps, decks, etc or even a few bridges. Downed trees or power outages aren't expected with this system.
Bottom line, a cold, wet, and breezy Saturday is on the way for our area. It'll be a good day to make indoor plans. By Saturday evening we'll already be drying out. Sunshine will return for our Sunday and Monday before we track another very wet system headed our way by Tuesday, which looks to be just all regular old rain right now.
Our WFMY Weather team will keep you posted on the latest.
