GREENSBORO, N.C. — Mother Nature isn't done roasting the Triad just yet. Big heat and humidity will continue through the weekend. Don't lose hope though. How long does it stick around? The WFMY News 2 Weather team has the answers.

HEAT WAVE SO FAR:

Wednesday was the hottest day of 2019 so far in the Triad. Temperatures soared into the mid 90s. With the high humidity, it made it feel like close to 100 during the afternoon. (Humidity makes it harder for sweat to evaporate off your skin, which is how your body stays cool.)

96° on Wednesday was the hottest of this year, and the hottest since July 22nd of 2017. Only 3 days in July have failed to hit 90° so far.

HEAT WAVE ALL WEEKEND:

If you have weekend plans, they'd better include a pool, a beach, or air conditioning. Heat will be just as bad for Saturday and Sunday. It won't be until next week that we start to cool down.

The WFMY News 2 Weather Team says high pressure gripping the Eastern half of the U.S. is spreading high heat and humidity over thousands of miles from the Midwest to the Northeast and of course the Southeast.

Plan on highs in the mid 90s on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The heat will be dangerous at times, so avoid lots of activity during the middle of the day. We're used to dealing with this kind of heat here in North Carolina.

RELIEF ON THE WAY:

This stretch of heat won't last forever. By next Tuesday, we're looking at lower pressure moving in. This will make it easier for clouds and showers and storms to form.

This is good news for a few reasons. One, a better chance for rain. Two, a break from the 90°s.
