Triad families reunite for Thanksgiving at PTI Airport

The airport terminal transforms into a place for loved ones to reconnect each holiday season.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The holidays are a time for loved ones to gather, maybe for the first time in months.

The Piedmont Triad International Airport had people coming and going all day Wednesday, eager to reunite.

Heartfelt hugs took place at PTI as families reunited for the Thanksgiving holiday.

"We're three generations," said one family at the airport. "I'm the grandfather, these are the sons and grandson."

The two brothers flew in from Texas and New Jersey.

"It wasn't too bad. I flew out of Newark. It wasn't as bad as I expected," one brother said.

"I came in from Austin. It was a zoo in Austin but not bad here," the other brother said.

Their nephew is excited to have his uncles in town.

"We don't get this a lot. It's nice to get a change from our day-to-day life and see everyone and have fun," the nephew said. "Especially this guy. He's the fun uncle of the family."

They'll head to Kernersville to meet up with the rest of the family. On Thursday they'll eat a feast, but not before taking part in a new family tradition.

"We have the 5K in the morning. The Greensboro turkey trout," the family said. "We'll try to crank that in under after a half hour."

Steven Marrujo and his fiancé were inside the airport with a cute sign waiting for their guest.

"We thought it'd be sweet for her," Marrujo said. "The favorite child always gets the sign."

They were picking up Steven's little sister Anna, who flew In from Atlanta.

"It's nice the holidays bring out the best in everyone so I'm excited to be back," Anna Marrujo said.

"We have family coming tomorrow," Steven Marrujo said. "A day of watching football eating."

Luckily for the families we spoke with, they didn't experience any chaos at PTI.

"With all the doom and gloom about airports I was here three times to pick up other members of the family and everyone was on time," the grandfather said.

It's one more thing to be thankful for this holiday season.
