CHARLOTTE, N.C. — American Airlines announced Monday the creation of "hundreds of added jobs" to its aircraft maintenance teams in Charlotte, Tulsa and Pittsburgh.
The new jobs are expected to allow "the airline to perform additional heavy maintenance check work at these locations," the airline said in a written announcement. "The carrier is excited to announce this investment which will grow its maintenance capacity in the near-term and will continue to build its pipeline of future maintenance team members."
In Charlotte, American Airlines created a total of 133 new jobs, including 122 licensed aviation maintenance technician positions. Jobs are listed on the airline's website.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport is one of the airline's largest hubs. American Airlines operated nearly 70% of the flights in Charlotte, according to Bureau of Transportation Statistics last updated in May.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport has been expanding to accommodate more passengers and more aircraft. The long-term construction has caused passenger headaches and will ultimately add a new runway and concourse. The airport construction is a multiyear project intended to increase the capacity of the airport.
