Winston-Salem police say a stolen car chase caused part of Waughtown Street to close

The juveniles driving the stolen car ran into two poles, causing powerlines to fall onto the road. The street remains closed.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem police said the 800 block of Waughtown Street from North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to Urban Street is shut down completely due to a crash.

A representative from the police department said at 11:30pm last night, officers found a stolen car around Clemsonville Rd. and Sprague Street. The vehicle sped away before officers could use their emergency equipment.

While in a nearby area, the responding officer saw the car run into two poles.

As the officer pulled up on the scene of the crash, he saw three people running away from the vehicle. The three individuals were taken into custody after a short foot chase.

All that ran away from the car were juveniles. No major injuries have been reported.

The powerlines in the road caused the road to be closed for an extended period on Thursday. The road remains closed. Drivers should find a different route until further notice.
