Moped driver killed in Winston-Salem, police say

The moped driver was hit by multiple cars on Old Belews Creek Road Sunday night.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem police are investigating the death of a moped driver who was hit by multiple cars Sunday night. 

The crash happened on Old Belews Creek Road, just before 10 p.m on Sunday. 

Police said John Dickson Cobb, 31, of Winston-Salem was driving the moped south on Old Belews Creek Road when another driver heading north turned left and hit Cobb. 

The moped driver was laying in the road when two more cars also heading south, then hit Cobb. 

First responders pronounced the Cobb dead at the scene. 

The other drivers involved in the crash were not injured. 

The Traffic Enforcement Unit has assumed the investigation. 

This is the seventh traffic-related death in Winston-Salem in 2020, according to police.
