Greensboro woman hit, killed by car after checking on injured deer

Greensboro police said a man hit a deer and a passenger got out the car to check on the deer when she was hit by a car coming in her direction Friday morning.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police said a woman is dead after a crash on East Wendover Avenue at Willard Street Friday morning.

Lemorris McCollum, 65, was driving west on E Wendover Ave., just west of Willard Street when he hit a deer that walked into the street.

After the crash, McCollum circled around and returned to the spot across from where he hit the deer. Passenger Wanda McCollum, 55, got out of the car to check on the deer when she was hit by a car.

Wanda McCollum was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died from her injuries, police say.

The driver that hit her was not injured. Neither speed nor impairment were factors in the crash.
