WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — UPDATE: The road has since reopened.
A tractor-trailer was involved in a crash with a passenger van on Robinhood Road in Winston-Salem, Winston-Salem police say.
Officers responded to the crash around 11:48 a.m. Thursday.
Both drivers of the tractor-trailer and car were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation revealed the van was going west on Robinhood Road when it tried to do a U-turn in front of the tractor-trailer.
The tractor-trailer was also going west on Robinhood Road, hit the van on the driver's side, and ran off the right side of the road and down an embankment.
The westbound lanes of the 3300 block of Robinhood Road are shut down until the tractor-trailer is removed from the embankment. The lanes are expected to be closed for several hours.
Drivers can use Whitaker Ridge as a detour, diverting traffic to Peace Haven Road where traffic can access Polo Road to the right, or Robinhood Road to the left.
This investigation is ongoing.
