Woman dead after being hit by car on S. Elm-Eugene Street in Greensboro, police say

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A pedestrian was killed on South Elm-Eugene Street early Thursday morning, according to Greensboro police. 

The incident happened just before 5:30 a.m. 

Officers said a woman was not in a crosswalk while crossing west across South Elm-Eugene Street when she was hit by a 2014 Chevrolet Caprice Classic. 

The pedestrian was identified as Patty Ann Shields, 44, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
