'Operation School Watch' counts 230 traffic violations in 1st week

Operation School Watch is an initiative aimed at making school zones safer.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — As part of its ongoing "Operation School Watch" initiative, the Greensboro Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit released numbers on the amount of traffic violations that were committed in school zones during the first week of school.

In total, 230 traffic charges were handed out from Aug. 26 to Sept. 2. Here's the full breakdown, according to the GPD:

— 153 Speeding in School Zone

— 33 Driver's License Violations

— 28 Other Violations

— 24 Warnings

— 5 Safe Movement Violations

— 5 Child Restraint Violations

— 4 Seatbelt Violations

— 2 Traffic Control Device

The Operation School Watch initiative is expected to run through the end of this week. We will provide you with updated numbers as we receive them from the Greensboro Police Department.
