GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Highway Patrol identified a man killed in a crash on Monday, just south of Jamestown.

Quinton Darnell Dean, of Jacksonville, NC, died in the crash on US 29 South at Riverdale Drive. The crash shut down all southbound lanes for about four hours.

Troopers said a work van and a car were stopped at the intersection when a box truck slammed into the back of the car, causing it to hit the back of the work van.

Dean was a rear-seat passenger in the car that was hit. He died at the scene. The driver of the car had serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in Greensboro.

The work van driver and the box truck driver had minor injuries.

Troopers have charged the box truck driver, identified as Alfonso Allen, of Durham, with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed.

Investigators do not believe impairment was a factor in the crash.

Editor's note: Previously, this article incorrectly stated the driver of the car died in the crash. We have corrected the article after getting more information from Highway Patrol. Troopers said it was the rear-seat passenger of the car who died in the crash. The driver of that same car had serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.
