BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. — Troopers said a 19-year-old from Greensboro died in a crash on US 29 in Browns Summit on Thursday.
The crash happened sometime before 7 p.m. near Benaja Road. It shut down the highway for several hours.
Troopers said Bryce Thomas Swanson was going south on the highway, in the inside travel lane, when he sideswiped a Chevrolet going the same direction in the next lane over.
Highway Patrol said Swanson lost control of his car, crossed the median, and hit a roll-back wrecker truck head-on.
Swanson died at the scene.
The driver of the Chevrolet was not hurt. The wrecker truck driver had minor injuries and went to the hospital.
Investigators aren't certain what caused Swanson to sideswipe the Chevrolet, causing him to lose control.
Troopers do not suspect impairment or speed contributed to the crash.
