CHARLOTTE, N.C. — North Carolina drivers now have more choices when it comes to performing select Division of Motor Vehicles tasks at designated supermarket locations.
An additional six North Carolina DMV self-service kiosks have been installed in Harris Teeter stores around Charlotte. This brings the total number of Charlotte-area locations to four.
Drivers can use these new machines to renew vehicle registrations, pay property taxes, and renew a driver's license. In addition to self-service options already available on the NCDMV's website, these new kiosks provide a way for residents to access DMV services without visiting a DMV in-person.
Around Charlotte, these NCDMV kiosks are located in Harris Teeter stores at:
- Quail Corners (8538 Park Road, Charlotte)
- Town Center Plaza (8600 University City Boulevard, Charlotte)
- Central Avenue (1704 Central Avenue, Charlotte)
- Riverbend Village (4701 Smith Farm Road, Charlotte)
Outside of Charlotte, kiosks are also available at
- Village District (500 Oberlin Road, Raleigh)
- Cary Village Square (885 Walnut Street, Cary)
- Fuquay Crossing (1371 East Broad Street, Fuquay-Varina)
- The Corners at Brier Creek (4221 Corners Parkway, Raleigh)
- Highland Centre (2800 Raeford Road, Fayetteville).
Future plans will bring a kiosk to Fort Liberty.
The NCDMV added the initial self-serve kiosks at select Harris Teeter stores in March as part of a pilot program.
Drivers were initially only able to use the kiosks to renew driver's licenses, permits and state identification cards. Adding vehicle registration renewal and property taxes offers drivers an alternative that state officials hope will shorten wait times at DMV offices statewide.
In early August, NCDMV said more than 3,400 transactions had been completed at the three pilot-kiosk locations.
“The public response to the kiosk pilot has been overwhelmingly positive,” NCDMV Commissioner Wayne Goodwin said.

More kiosks are expected based on usage, but state legislation currently limits the kiosks to Cumberland, Mecklenburg and Wake counties. The kiosks are installed at no cost to the state, charging customers a 2% credit or debit card processing fee in addition to a $4.95 fee per transaction.
