I-40 lane closures are planned. Find out where to avoid traffic headaches.

The I-40 west and eastbound highway lanes are closing so crews can work on pavement rehabilitation and bridge preservation, the city said.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The City of Winston-Salem says nightly lane closures on Interstate-40 are planned starting Sunday, August 1.

The highway lanes are closing so crews can work on pavement rehabilitation and bridge preservation, the city said.

For I-40 Eastbound, lane closures are scheduled nightly from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am the following morning. Sunday, August 1 through Thursday, August 5, two of three lanes will be closed from the I-40/US 421 split (MM 188) to Peter’s Creek Parkway (MM 192).

I-40 Westbound will also see lane closures nightly from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am the following morning on Tuesday, August 3rd thru Thursday, August 5th. Two of three lanes will be closed from just west of Hwy 52 (MM 193.5) to west of Peter’s Creek Parkway (MM 191.5).

There will also be a ramp closures on I-40, 10:00 pm to 5:00 am the following morning. Sunday, August 1 through Thursday, August 5th, the ramp onto I-40 Eastbound from Peter’s Creek Parkway will be closed to perform bridge preservation operations on the bridge near the end of the ramp. A signed detour will be in place nightly.
