Person found dead in vehicle fire on I-40, Greensboro police say

Exit 213 at Guilford College Road was blocked off as police looked into the death.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Update (4:15 p.m.): The Greensboro Police Department said it responded to a call of a vehicle fire around 12:25 p.m. on Wednesday. When responders arrived, they found the occupant of the vehicle dead at the scene.

I-40 W in Greensboro near Guilford College Road, exit 213, is back open after an ongoing death investigation closed the road, according to the Greensboro Police Department. 

WFMY News 2's Amber Lake is at the scene where she said there was a body seen under a tarp. This happened right at the exit near Top Golf. A Lynch Logistics tractor-trailer was also on the scene, and the driver was a witness. 

A Crime Scene Investigation unit is also on the scene.

A representative with the Greensboro Fire Department told WFMY News 2 that they assisted on a call about a car fire. A total of 16 firefighters responded to the scene, according to Greensboro Fire.

The road was closed shortly after 12:30 p.m. and reopened around 3:15 p.m.
