1 charged in deadly crash after failing to stop at a red light, troopers say

Troopers said Eric Osborne has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, failure to stop for a red light, and driving while license suspended.

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A woman is dead after a crash on US-29 in Guilford County on Thursday, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Around 4:18 p.m., troopers received a report about a crash on US-29 at River Road.

Investigators said 49-year-old Eric Steve Osborne, of Thomasville, was driving a 2017 Dodge Ram truck south on US-29, before crashing into 42-year-old Lorena Valadez Pacheco, of Greensboro, who was driving east on River Road in a 2007 Honda Accord.

Troopers said Osborne failed to stop at the intersection with a red light before striking Pacheco on the driver's side of her Honda.

Pacheco died on-scene, according to troopers.

State Highway Patrol said Osborne was uninjured in the crash.

Investigators said impairment is not believed to be a contributing factor in the wreck.

Troopers said Osborne has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, failure to stop for a red light, and driving while license suspended.

Southbound lanes of US 29 at River Road were closed for approximately two hours during the investigation.

Troopers cleared the scene at 6:41 p.m.
