GREENSBORO, N.C. — One man is dead, and another is seriously injured after being hit by a car, according to the Greensboro Police Department (GPD).
GPD said the crash occurred on North Murrow Boulevard near Gorrell Street when two Flagger Force workers attempted to deploy lane closure signs in the right lane of North Murrow Blvd. Both men were wearing their high-visibility clothing, according to police.
Both men were taken to a local hospital to treat their serious injuries.
Randolph Norman Westenfelder, 51, died from his injuries. David B. Peterson, 30, is in critical condition.
Police identified Sydnee Simone Dyson, 20, as the driver of the car. Charges are pending.
The company released a statement following the incident involving their employees:
"We are deeply saddened to share that Flagger Force employee, Randolph Westenfelder, passed away on Monday, January 29 as a result of injuries sustained during an incident involving a vehicle while performing his duties in Greensboro, North Carolina. Flagger Force employee, David Peterson, who was also involved in the incident sustained critical injuries.
At Flagger Force, we take the safety of our employees, our clients, and the community very seriously. We are devastated by this tragedy and continue to work with the authorities and conduct an internal investigation. Out of respect for those involved and in light of the ongoing investigation, we do not have additional information to share at this time."
