WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Winston-Salem police department said a driver in Winston-Salem veered of the road and died in after hitting a telephone pole.

The driver, Michael David Kestner, was found dead inside the vehicle when officers arrived on the scene of the crash.

The reason the vehicle turned off the road is unknown, officials said.

Initial investigations showed Kestner's vehicle was traveling north along the 2900 block of Old Salisbury Road when it veered right off the roadway and hit a telephone pole and guy wire, coming to a rest in a field near the pole. '

The 2900 block of Old Salisbury Road will remain closed as repairs are made to telephone poles and lines, officials said.
