'We were the only ones that stopped' | Samaritans help NC woman after her car went airborne off the highway and crashed

North Carolina Highway Patrol charged a woman they say ran off the road and suffered minor injuries in a single-vehicle crash.

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — Dashcam video captured the terrifying moments when a car went airborne off a Triad highway.

It nearly missed colliding with an overpass.

Fortunately for the driver, the family didn't just watch this all unfold and then move on.

They rushed to her aid.

Freddy Garcia and his wife were the good samaritans who helped the driver.

"At the moment I thought they were going to pull over but as I was looking at it for a period of time I saw it go up the bank of the highway bridge," Garcia said.

Garcia saw it all Tuesday evening near mile marker 80.

The car traveled down 1-73 south in Randolph County left the freeway, and ran up an embankment, just missing the overpass. It then crossed the highway with oncoming traffic and crashed into a guardrail.

"I've seen hit and runs but nothing to that level," Garcia said.

Garcia's wife called the police while he checked on the driver.

"Thank God we were there and I feel that there was a presence of god with is and the lady behind u," Garcia said. "Because we were the only ones that stopped. And I'm glad she's okay."

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said a 29-year-old woman from Asheboro was behind the wheel.

She was able to get out of the car on her own and was treated for minor injuries.

"I thought it was going to be worse," Garcia said.  "I thought I was going to see blood but it was just that bump and she was a little shook up."

Troopers are looking into what caused the woman to lose control of the vehicle.

North Carolina State Troopers charged the woman with failure to maintain control.

It took the Troopers nearly two hours to clear the scene.
