Car crash damages multiple powerlines, blocking part of S. Hawthorne Road in Winston-Salem

A crash has caused damage to powerlines and blocking traffic in the area for a long period of time.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — UPDATE: The 1700 and 1800 blocks of South Hawthorne Road will remain closed overnight.

Winston-Salem police said that both the 1700 and 1800 blocks of South Hawthorne Road between Bodford Street and Bethesda Road is shut down Wednesday morning. 

Officers said the area is shut down due to a crash damaging multiple power lines that are blocking traffic. The road is expected to be closed for an extended period, likely 5-7 hours. 

Drivers should avoid the area and find another route.
