DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Troopers said a man died after a hit-and-run on Business 85 north in Davidson County Thursday morning. The victim has been identified as 61-year-old Robert Lee Kersey, from the Thomasville area.
Highway Patrol said the deadly wreck happened shortly after 6 a.m. on Business 85 near NC-68 - just south of the Randolph County line. They said Kersey was walking when a driver hit him and took off. Troopers don't know what kind of vehicle it was. It's also unclear why Kersey was in the roadway, or whether distractions or speed play a role in the crash.
Troopers are asking for help identifying the vehicle that left the scene. If you were in the area around the time of the wreck, call NC Highway Patrol at 336-481-0025.
Northbound lanes of Business 85 were closed for a few hours while troopers investigated.
