ASHEBORO, N.C. — Highway Patrol says a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning killed a 15-year-old driver in Randolph County.

The crash happened around 5 a.m. Sunday on US-220 near Cedar Grove Road. Troopers said Adrian Jimenez, of Asheboro, was driving a 2008 Ford Expedition SUV northbound when he crossed the center line, veered off the left side of the road, struck a tree, and overturned.

Jimenez was pronounced dead at the scene. No other person was inside the vehicle.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The road remained closed for several hours.
