What was that streak across the sky this morning?

Many people in the Triad saw a "streak of light" early this morning.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Did you see it? What many people are calling a "streak of light" lit up the early morning sky across the Triad around 5:30 Tuesday. Some folks online even called it "aliens", but that's not true.

What many people saw was a Space X Falcon 9 Rocket shooting across the sky. It launched from Florida at Kennedy Space Center at 5:23 AM, then a few minutes later could be seen in the Triad sky. As the rocket climbs higher, the sun light reflects of the rocket and illuminates the vapor trail, giving it that odd or even "balloon" kind of shape.

A rocket was seen shooting across the Triad sky shortly after it launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Trey Snow saw it on his way to work early this morning and said he saw a light floating in the sky but didn't know what it was. WFMY News 2 Meteorologist Christian Morgan confirmed to him that it was the rocket that he was seeing.

Kristen Moore saw it too, in Thomasville early this morning.

This Space X mission is called the Polaris Dawn. This is the first of three planned missions with the goal of completing the first ever commercialized space walk. There are four private citizens aboard the five day mission.
