Two UNCG Baseball Players Selected In MLB Draft

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Two UNCG Spartans have been selected on the second day of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft.

The Atlanta Braves selected UNCG centerfielder Andrew Moritz with the 172nd overall pick on Tuesday.

The junior is UNCG's career leader in batting average at .406, triples, consecutive game hitting streak and consecutive games reached base streak, according to the university. This season, Moritz also became the first UNCG player to ever be named Southern Conference Player of the Year.

According to UNCG, Moritz is the second highest UNCG draft selection in school history.

Joining his teammate in this year's Draft is relief pitcher Andrew Wantz. The Los Angeles Angels selected him with the 211th pick (seventh round) on Tuesday.

Wantz's 19 career saves tie a UNCG record. He also struck out 278 batters, earning a 3.80 ERA and All-SoCon honors two times while playing in Greensboro.
