GREENSBORO, N.C. — The National Sports Media Association seeks to develop educational opportunities for those who are interested in pursuing a career in sports media, through networking, interning, mentoring, and scholarship programs. The organization began in North Carolina and they're staying close to their roots, hosting their annual conference in Greensboro June 30 - July 1, 2024.
The Awards Weekend & National Convention routinely draws in the biggest names from the sports media industry. The NSMA elects Hall of Famers, a National Sportscaster and Sportswriter of the Year, and State Sportscasters and Sportswriters of the Year (from 49 states, plus DC). Other presentations include awards for:
- the Big House Gaines College Basketball Coaches of the Year (Division I and II)
- the Woody Durham Voice of College Sports award
- Jim Nantz College Sportscaster of the Year award
- the Roone Arledge Award for Innovation
This year, sportscasters Joe Buck and Andrea Kremer, and sportswriter Jayson Stark will be inducted into the National Sports Media Association’s Hall of Fame. They’ll be joined by posthumous selections Tim McCarver and Roger Kahn. The five were the leading vote-getters in balloting by NSMA members in December.
Kevin Harlan of CBS, Westwood One, and Turner will be recognized as National Sportscaster of the Year, while ESPN’s Jeff Passan was voted National Sportswriter of the Year.
