West Forsyth's Grant Lamoureux will represent USA at U19 Beach Volleyball World Championships

The 2024 FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships are held from August 27 to September 1 in China

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Volleyball was a sport that West Forsyth's Grant Lamoureux started to play for fun. Quickly, he and others noticed he had a natural gift for the sport.

"It kind of clicked that I had a chance of doing something like this, but it  never really started to settle in until last year when I started to talk to colleges," Lamoureux said.

The 17-year-old is committed to play men's volleyball at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.

This summer, Lamoureux is quickly becoming a well known name globally for men's volleyball. In April, the West Forsyth rising senior was selected to the United States U19 volleyball team. A month later, he helped captain the team to an undefeated weekend in Puerto Rico to win the U19 NORCECA Championship.

In June, Lamoureux then went to Hermosa, California to compete in the 2024 Beach U19 National Team trials.

"That was probably the best tournament we've ever played together," said Lamoureux.

The 6'10 volleyball player and his partner Blake Goodwin punched their ticket to represent USA after going undefeated at the team trails.

"We wanted to go to China since the day we got there and we made it happen."

Lamoureux and Goodwin will travel to Shanglou, China to compete in the 2024 FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships. The tournament is held August 27 through September 1.

"It's a dream for me and it's crazy I'm able to make it come true."

In his first year of competing for the USA U19 team,  Lamoureux is hoping this is a stepping stone to making it on the 2028 Olympic Roster.
