GREENSBORO, N.C. — Former NC A&T football star, Tarik Cohen has signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets.
According to CBS News, Cohen was released by the Carolina Panthers earlier this month after suffering a string of serious injuries.
Cohen suffered a torn ACL, MCL, and a leg fracture that has kept him off the field since 2020.
He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. After several injuries, the Bears released Cohen in 2022.
Cohen signed with the Carolina Panthers' practice squad in January but never appeared in a game.
The football star will now have a chance to make the Jets' roster as a reserve running back and special teamer.
"With the new kickoff rules and these kick returners, they're going to touch the ball over 100 times a year, which is significant," Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday. "At least that's what we're anticipating. And a guy like him, he's still young, obviously coming off his injuries, but we're excited to have him aboard."
