RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wolfpack 'packed' NC State's campus Wednesday afternoon to send the men's team off to the Final Four. Fans cheered and held up signs as the players made their way from the gym to the bus.
Their sendoff today had rows and rows of people lined up out here… cheering the team on as they loaded up onto the bus.
The team is heading to Glendale, Arizona where they will play the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday.
Fans are eager for the game on Saturday.. hoping their team will secure that championship game slot.
from losing in the first round of the NCAA tournament last year to making it to the final four this year... confidence levels are high on NC State's campus.
"It's just been exciting to be a part of the community- We're the Cinderella story and we deserve to be here so why not us?" said an NC State employee.
"It's real big yeah it's really big I have two older brothers that went here and as a freshman just being able to see the difference in their environment and ours they used to be hopeless and now we actually have hope which is kind of amazing to see because who wouldn't want the Wolfpack to win," said Jane Kempf NC State student.
"I'm really excited because they get to be in the final four and this could be an opportunity to be in the championship again and I'm just really excited about it," said Colton Robbins, an NC State fan.
NC State fans watch the sendoff
The Wolfpack men are following their first Atlantic Coast Conference championship since 1987, hoping to add another trophy to their case.
The Wolfpack women are also in the final four. It's their first trip since 1998 when Hall of Famer Kay Yow was the coach.
N.C. State is the 11th school to reach the men's and women's Final Four in the same season.
The team's mantra... "Why not us?" A few people in the crowd have said "Why not both?" Why not a national title for the men's and women's teams?
We will see who comes out on top after this week.
