RALEIGH, N.C. — In the Final Four match-up North Carolina State lost to Purdue 63-50.
Although the Wolfpack run has come to an end, fans at North Carolina State said they were so proud to be a part of the Final Four.
"It’s bittersweet, we had an absolutely incredible run," NC State fan Jakari Robinson recalled.
Some fans told WFMY News 2 the loss adds motivation for the future.
"I’m really hoping this will help us build our team with roster players," NC State fan Mitchell Swicegood said.
The cheering and dancing on Hillsborough Street brought back memories from the 1980’s for one NC state fan.
"It happened in 1983, I was here and it was exciting. To some extent it is happening this very day," retired NC State faculty Ed Funkhouser said.
We met a Purdue fan on campus who said the match up was a lucky break.
"The only thing I got to say is lucky. I’ve never seen this happen," Wesley Snarp said.
"They beat four rank teams to win to get where they are today, so that’s not exactly a fluke," Funkhouser said.
Whether it was a loss or a win some NC state fans said it’s the community support that counts.
"Being able to support that and those victories as well as those challenges is important," Brittany Tanguay said.
The loss of a game but a mark in history for the underdog.
