GREENSBORO, N.C. — March Madness is here and not only are there three North Carolina teams (UNC, Duke, NC State) in the tournament but it also has some Triad ties.
Two assistant coaches are Triad natives and their teams are competing in the NCAA tournament.
Florida Atlantic Assistant Coach Drew Williamson
Drew Williamson is a Burlington Cummings alum and the Florida Atlantic assistant coach.
They are set to play the Northwestern Wildcats Friday at 12:15 p.m.
Williamson said his time in Burlington and his journey to the tournament is a full circle moment.
"It means everything. Every moment that growing up was something that prepared me for this moment right here," he said.
Stetson Assistant Coach Montay Brandon
Montay Brandon is a Wesleyan Christian alum and the assistant coach for Stetson.
They will face the Connecticut Huskies Friday at 2:45 p.m.
This is Stetson's first time in the tournament.
Brandon said he is proud to call the Triad home.
"I'm glad to be from there. I'm glad that I'm part of Stetson on the NCAA tournament," Brandon said.
"For somebody from that area anybody can do it. Anybody from the Triad area you can play from there, you can coach, you can do anything you want to."
