DJ Horne's father says son's NCAA run has been 'amazing to witness'

Lamar Horne admits - he had his doubts. But once NC State won the ACC Tournament, he's had the same mentality as his son - why not us?

DALLAS — Survive and advance. That's the name of the game in March Madness.

It's exactly what the NC State Wolfpack had to do in the ACC Tournament - to get where they are now.

The Sweet Sixteen.

All along the way, Wolfpack guard DJ Horne has had the mentality, "Why not us?"

Even his dad has his doubts, but he told WFMY News 2 that watching his son's remarkable NCAA run has been nothing short of special.

"Aw, man, it's been incredible. If I could just sum it up in one word - incredible. Amazing to witness. I had my doubts, but once those guys got that streak going during the ACC tournament, it was Go Pack time baby! Survive and advance," Lamar Horne said.

The previous match against No. 14 Oakland had dad on the edge of his seat - just like the rest of Wolfpack nation.

"It was a sigh of relief. They took it into overtime, I’m like, oh my goodness, we have to pull this out, and the guys just rallied together and closed out that overtime and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen," Lamar recalled.

Now, dad is in Dallas, ready to cheer on the Pack, and asking the same question his son has been all along - why not us?

"All positive vibes over here. We're not losing; were going to speak it into existence. Go Pack! I really feel like we match up very well against Marquette, if the guys keep doing what they been doing, keep hanging on to that hope, that survive and advance mentality, I can really see us advancing into Glendale next week."

NC State plays Marquette on Friday at 7:09 p.m. ET for the chance to go to the Elite 8. The game is on WFMY News 2.
