In seven years, the Jimmy V Basketball Classic has featured the nation's top teams. One team that hasn't been in the event is the team the late Jim Valvano coached. That omission will change with the upcoming college basketball season. North Carolina State's men's basketball schedule shows a December 17th game in the eighth V Classic. The Wolfpack will face Gonzaga at Continental Airlines Arena in the Meadowlands in New Jersey. In previous years, the Jimmy V has featured Duke and North Carolina twice. Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and Virginia also have played in it. Although the event benefits the V Foundation for Cancer Research, the foundation directors are not involved in selecting the teams. The foundation's C-E-O, Nick Valvano says no one in the nonprofit organization or the Valvano family ever objected to N-C State not being chosen.
