CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Kemba Walker, the Charlotte Hornets legend and four-time NBA All-Star, announced his retirement from basketball on Tuesday.
Walker made the announcement on social media, reflecting on his career as a whole.
"This has all been a dream," Walker said in the post. "When I look back, I still can't believe the things I achieved in my career."
The Charlotte Bobcats drafted Walker in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft. He immediately became one of the team's top offensive weapons and was Charlotte's leading scorer by his second season.
Walker helped lead Charlotte to the postseason in the 2013-14 season, the only playoff appearance for the franchise under the Bobcats name.
In the 2016-17 season, Walker was selected for his first of four straight NBA All-Star appearances. That season, he averaged over 23 points per game for the Hornets.
The best season of Walker's career was 2018-19 when he averaged 25.6 points, 5.9 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game.
Walker left the Hornets following that season and earned one more All-Star appearance with the Boston Celtics in the 2019-2020 season. Walker also played with the New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks before playing in Monaco in 2024.
Walker owns several Hornets franchise records, including the most points, field goals, 3-pointers, and free throws scored.
