CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges is once again facing legal issues as he faces an arrest warrant and a court summons for the alleged violation of a domestic violence order.
Bridges has an unserved warrant out for his arrest and an unserved criminal summons for violating a domestic violence order, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office said on Wednesday. A police report obtained by WCNC Charlotte indicates the incident happened on Oct. 6 but the victim didn't report it until Oct. 10.
According to the criminal summons, Bridges allegedly threatened the mother of his children during a custody exchange. The report claims that Bridges then threw pool balls at the victim's vehicle, smashing the windshield and denting the car. He then allegedly told her if she told police what happened, that he would "take everything from her and withhold child support."
All of this happened while the children were inside their mother's vehicle, according to the summons. The report also states that Bridges' current girlfriend yelled at the victim and kicked her car while his kids were inside.
A league source told WCNC Charlotte's Nick Carboni that the Hornets just learned of Bridges' warrant on Wednesday.
"We are aware of the reports and are in the process of gathering more information," the Charlotte Hornets told WCNC Charlotte in response to the situation.
Bridges pleaded no contest to a domestic violence charge in Los Angeles in November 2022 and was given a three-year probation sentence. Bridges was charged in June 2022 while he was a restricted free agent, forcing him to miss the entire 2022-23 NBA season.
The victim in the case is also the mother of Bridges' two young children. She posted pictures of injuries and a medical report on Instagram after the June 2022 incident that read, “adult victim of physical abuse by male partner; Assault by strangulation, Brain concussion; Closed fracture of nasal bone; Contusion of rib; Multiple bruises; Strain of neck muscle.”
After Bridges' court case finished, the NBA announced he was suspended for the first 30 games of the 2023-24 season, with 20 games credited. Bridges will still miss the first 10 games of the upcoming season.
Bridges signed a one-year qualifying offer with the Hornets in July and expressed regret at the domestic violence incident.
"I sincerely apologize for the pain, embarrassment, and disappointment that last year’s incident caused so many people,” Bridges said in July. “Time away from the game allowed me to reflect, immerse myself in therapy, and prioritize becoming a better person - someone my family and peers can be proud of. I’m grateful to the Hornets and the NBA community for giving me a second chance."
Bridges was Charlotte's leading scorer in the 2021-22 season, scoring 20.2 points per game. He played four seasons with the Hornets before he faced these charges.
