North Wilkesboro Speedway ready for All-Star Race

Chief Experience Officer, Jessica Fickenscher shares what NASCAR fans can expect this year at All-Star Race

NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. — For the second straight year, North Wilkesboro Speedway will host the NASCAR All-Star Race.

"It's one of the oldest tracks on the circuit and the fact that what it was a few years ago to what we've turned it into today has absolutely been amazing," said Chief Experience Officer, Jessica Fickenscher. "I think that in itself just is unique and special. We've really taken hold of that history and we brought it back to life."

This years race will feature a new tire package.

"We're going to have some rain tires. We brought what we had at Bristol for the short track package, so hopefully we'll have an exciting race," Fickenscher explained.

As well as a brand new paved track.

"The track that we ran on last year was the the original track from the last race here that Jeff Gordon won in the mid 1990's so desperately needed to be done," Fickenscher said. "The company that actually paved it was the original company that paved it 40 years ago."

North Wilkesboro is expecting a sold out crowd of 20,000 people. The first campers are able to roll into the campgrounds on Sunday, May 12. There are no shortage of activities for fans to do.

"We are now one of the stops along the moonshine trail, so you have to go to the Moonshine history. That was such a big part of racing  in NASCAR at North Wilkesboro," Fickenscher said. "We're just drive down from Charlotte, so you have to hit the NASCAR Hall of Fame and all the race teams, when there's not stuff going on at the track," Fickenscher added.

On Tuesday, May 14 and Wednesday, May 15 there is the ZMAX cars tour. Thursday will feature the Fan Fest Hauler Parade. Friday, May 16 is the NASCAR pit crew challenge, Saturday, May 17 is the Truck Series race and heat races, Sunday, May 18 is the main event the All-Star Race.
