WELCOME, N.C. — Richard Childress Racing unveiled some very patriotic paint schemes ahead of the Coca-Cola 600 coming up on Memorial Day weekend.
“You know without our veterans and our military men and women today sacrificing...and you look back at the World War II veterans and World War I veterans…that’s the reason we live in the country that we do today and to have that flag flying, that beautiful American flag…that’s the reason these people have protected it for us,” said Richard Childress.
Austin Dillon's racecar is painted red, white and blue with the name of US Army Captain Jennifer Moreno on his windshield. She lost her life Oct. 6, 2013 in Afghanistan.
Kyle Busch's No. 8 car windshield was also unveiled with the name of Lance Corporal Jacob Levy. He died on Dec. 10, 2011 in Germany two and a half days after being wounded in Afghanistan.
“It's so special. You have a connection with the families that come out, they’ve paid the ultimate sacrifice. Its unimaginable losing a son…as a father now I can’t imagine. So just being able to hopefully brighten their day and bring a moment of happiness into their life for that moment in time is really special and get to remember them in a special way…the heroes that they are on our racecars and go out there running 200 miles per hour out there with them on our windshields," said Dillon.
