Greensboro Grasshoppers' hosts it's first sell-out game of the year

The box office had 'standing-room only' tickets available for Friday night's game.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A strike out of seats at First National Bank Field.

The Greensboro Grasshoppers' Friday night game was standing-room only.

General Manager Tim Vangel said the team and the stadium have come a long way in the two decades since it began.

"We have one group that has over 2,000 people coming to the game. The community support has been fantastic," he shared.

Vangel said the stadium is usually sold out for the 4th of July games but this is the first game on a different date to sell out in five years. He said profits are up 10% from last year.

For some baseball fans, a trip back to the Hoppers stadium brings back memories.

"The last time I was here was '95, so it didn't look as modern and remodeled," former pro-baseball player Anton French said.

Vangel said the stadium started as an economic vision for downtown.

The Hoppers plan to celebrate their 20 year anniversary Saturday night. Tickets are still available.
