REIDSVILLE, N.C. — We have officially crossed the halfway mark of the High School basketball season with the Triad being home to some of the best teams in the state.
That includes one school looking to win a state title on the court after already doing so on the football field.
Last school year, the Reidsville Rams were State Runner-Ups in both football and basketball. This year, they're back for redemption, as the boys are looking to do something very special this school year. They've already won their 23rd football state championship in program history. Now, they're eyes are set on bringing home, title number five on the hardwood.
"They make me look so good," Reidsville Head Basketball Coach, Jason Ross, said. "Sometimes I just shake my head and wonder — did he just do that? These kids are incredible on and off the court, and I'm just proud to be their coach."
"I feel good. I feel very confident after our football state championship. Now, getting back on the court with guys is a great feeling, I'm just so grateful to be in this moment", is how Reidsville Senior, Al Lee described the last three months.
The Reidsville Rams are looking to do something, that many schools here in North Carolina only dream about. That's winning the state championship on the gridiron, and the hardwood. What makes this story more interesting, is that 10 of the 12 players on the hoops team, also play football.
"Just winning with my brothers, seeing how hard we work, how hard they work. It just makes me feel good for them, for myself, and the city of Reidsville", is how sophomore Dionte Neal described what he and his teammates have been able to accomplish this school year.
Now that football season is done, and the championship banner has been secured. It's time to shift focus to the next task at hand, especially after being so close last year.
"After going 0 and 2 last year, I didn't contribute as much as I wanted to, but we're coming back this year stronger than ever. Being able to win with my brothers. We've built so much chemistry and won the state championship. It's just a dream come true", Sophomore Kendre Harrison said.
"It's a lot left to do, a lot left to win. We feel like if we keep working, we can accomplish all those things. We're going to keep working, keep having fun, we're going to stay together and we're going to play as a family", Neal said.
