Bishop McGuinness basketball star Adelaide Jernigan signs letter of intent to play at NC State

Jernigan is the top-ranked girl in North Carolina in the Class of 2025.

Bishop McGuinness senior Adelaide Jernigan made her commitment to the N.C. State women's basketball team official Wednesday morning by signing her national letter of intent.

Jernigan, a 5-foot-11 shooting guard, is ranked as the No. 1 overall player in North Carolina in the Class of 2025 by 247Sports' composite rankings. She is considered the No. 16 shooting guard and No. 59 overall player in her class.

Last season, Jernigan led the Villains with 19.0 points per game to go with 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 steals. She finished the year shooting 46% from the field and 29% from 3-point range.

As a sophomore in 2022-23, Jernigan also led Bishop McGuinness in scoring. She closed out the year by leading the Villains with 21 points in a 30-point win over Chatham Charter in the 1A state championship.

In three seasons, Jernigan has already scored 1,586 career points. If she keeps up her normal scoring average, she should reach 2,000 points by the end of her senior year.

The Bishop McGuinness girls basketball team opens the 2024-25 season on Dec. 6 on the road at Carver High.
