GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Wednesday marked a warm welcome home for a former Greensboro Grasshoppers field manager.
David Berg addressed the media and fans in his first day back at NewBridge Bank Park as the club's manager for the 2014 season.
Berg managed the Grasshoppers in 2012 and returns to the organization after a year away from the team. In 2013, Berg served as infield instructor for the Miami Marlins minor leagues.
And, with Berg's return comes experience.
The Marlins selected Berg out of the University of Miami in the 38th round of the 1993 First-Year Player Draft. Berg made his major league debut in 1998 as the lowest-ever draft pick from the Florida Marlins to reach the big leagues. His career .313 batting average is still the organization's best.
Berg later retired in 2006, and his coaching career began right after that.
You can see Berg and the 2014 Greensboro Grasshoppers in action in downtown Greensboro this season. For information about season tickets, mini ticket plans and advertising packages, call 336-268-2255 or visit the Greensboro Grasshoppers website.
