Traffic could surge in Winston-Salem on Thursday thanks to Wake Forest-NC A&T football game

The Demon Deacons host North Carolina A&T at Allegacy Stadium on Thursday.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Officials in Winston-Salem are preparing for an influx in traffic Thursday thanks to Wake Forest's season-opening football game against North Carolina A&T.

Over 30,000 fans are expected to flock to Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium on Thursday to catch their first taste of college football action in 2024. Because of this, the Winston-Salem Department of Transportation is planning to manage major intersections around the venue to make sure things run smoothly.

Traffic is expected to be at its worst in the hours before the game and the hours immediately after it finishes. The matchup between the Demon Deacons and Aggies is set to kick off at 7 p.m. local time.

Officials say fans who are planning to attend the game should arrive at least one hour before kickoff. They also encourage carpooling to decrease the number of vehicles on the road.

Messages about parking and traffic information will be communicated through variable messaging systems along the surrounding highways and roads, according to the DOT.

Thursday marks A&T's first game against Wake Forest since the 2004 season. That year, the Demon Deacons defeated the Aggies, 42-3.
