DURHAM, N.C. — The Duke football team has landed one of the top-rated players in the transfer portal, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.
The Blue Devils have earned a commitment from quarterback Darian Mensah, who entered the portal after leading Tulane to an American Athletic Conference championship as a redshirt freshman this season.
Mensah finished the regular season completing 65.9% of his passes for 2,723 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound quarterback from San Luis Obispo, Calif. still has three years of eligibility remaining.
Duke was looking for a quarterback after Maalik Murphy told ESPN he was entering the transfer portal on Monday. Mensah visited the Blue Devils on Tuesday, and by Wednesday, they had themselves a new quarterback.
The Blue Devils went 9-3 in the regular season with Murphy, who threw for 2,933 yards, a school-record 26 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions.
Duke is scheduled to play in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl against Ole Miss on Jan. 2.
