CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Atlantic Coast Conference has fined and publicly reprimanded both N.C. State and UNC for the postgame scuffle that broke out Saturday night after the Wolfpack's 35-30 win over the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill.
After the final whistle, some North Carolina State players brought a flag onto the field to try and plant it inside UNC's logo at midfield. What ensued was a skirmish filled with viral moments, including when UNC receiver J.J. Jones picked up the flag and threw it to the sidelines like a javelin.
According to the ACC, the teams' actions "violated the ACC Sportsmanship Policy."
"The unsportsmanlike behavior that was displayed is unacceptable and tarnishes the passionate on-field play between these institutions."
According to the ACC, the fines collected will be placed into the Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship account.
