NC A&T football gets blown out by Hampton in homecoming game

The Aggies had a 14-0 lead before things got out of hand.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Despite jumping out to a 14-0 lead against Hampton on Saturday, the North Carolina A&T football team lost its homecoming game to the Pirates 59-17.

The Aggies (1-6, 0-3 CAA) scored two touchdowns in the game's opening five minutes, as Cameren Dalrymple's scored on a 5-yard run and Justin Fomby threw a 17-yard touchdown to Daniel Coles.

That would be the last time A&T would score in the first half, as the Pirates totaled 24 unanswered and went into halftime up 10 points. Things didn't get any better for the Aggies in the second half, as Hampton scored on its first drive of the third quarter to go up 31-14 and essentially put the game out of reach.

Things really took a turn for the worse in the fourth quarter, when Hampton scored three touchdowns in less than a minute. The sequence started with an 8-yard run by Tymere Robinson and was followed by a fumble on the ensuing kickoff that the Pirates recovered in the end zone. Finally, Fomby threw an 11-yard pick-six that put Hampton up 59-17.

The Aggies have lost five straight games since defeating Winston-Salem State, 27-20, back on Sept. 7. A&T has an overall record of 2-16 since the start of the 2023 season under head coach Vincent Brown.

North Carolina A&T returns to the field next Saturday on the road against Campbell.
